Iron County Genealogical Society meets on Thursday

IRON RIVER — The Iron County Genealogical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the J. Patrick White Conference Room at the West Iron District Library in Iron River.

Dan Hinch will present a program on the new West Iron County School District’s “Wall of Fame,” a designated area inside the entrance to the Charles Greenlund Gymnasium at the school, to celebrate the accomplishments, commitments and contributions of chosen alumni and the school’s history at large.

The Wall of Fame honors individuals who are worthy of recognition and serve as examples for others to emulate.

The inaugural class of the WIC Wall of Fame, was chosen by the Wall of Fame Selection Committee, which includes: Kevin Schmetzler, superintendent; Mike Berutti, athletic director; Jay Barry, longtime West Iron media member and sports broadcaster; Bernadette Coates, WIC athlete and graduate; Dan Hinch, West Iron graduate, member of the U.P. Sports Hall of Fame Council and Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Task Force; Jim Kralovec, WIC athlete, graduate and teacher; Gary Scalcucci, West Iron graduate, athlete and current assistant vice president of First National Bank & Trust in Iron River; and Glenn Treado, WIC graduate and athlete, who was a member of the 1975 Division 2 national championship Northern Michigan football team.

Inaugural inductees consisted of, in alphabetical order: Willard Anderson, Toby Brzoznowski, L. Brandon Giovanelli, Charles Greenlund, Lee LeBlanc, Harry Monson and Lewis Reimann.

The West Iron Wall of Fame’s charter class, the Class of 2023, was inducted last October. The WIC Wall of Fame has established a Facebook page, where nominations for future classes and information for donors is posted.
