Community chorus rehearsals to start

KINGSFORD — The Dickinson County Community Chorus is looking for adults and children to participate in the chorus. Rehearsals for adults will begin Tuesday, May 7, for the 2024 “Music Under the Stars” summer concert.

All rehearsals will be from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesdays in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 395 Hamilton Ave. in Kingsford.

There is no charge for membership in the chorus, and there are no auditions. However, prospective new members should possess some knowledge of choral singing.

DCCC’s principal conductor, Crystal Hogan, will direct the summer concert accompanied by Jan Van Gasse. Dawn Kranz and Jeremiah Garrigues-Cortelyou will assist with rehearsals and ensembles and Kranz will direct the children’s chorus. Children will begin rehearsals on June 4 from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

The Music Under the Stars concert will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 14, the band shell in Lake Antoine Park.

The chorus will also provide music at the morning church service that day at the Presbyterian Church to thank the church for the use of its facilities for rehearsals.

The chorus will also sponsor a float in the Fourth of July parade. Volunteer singers from the chorus, past and present, are welcome to ride or walk with the DCCC float.

“We have planned an outstanding selection of music that will be exciting for singers and audience alike,” Hogan said. “The programs will include many songs from The Great American Songbook to include gospel, folk, patriotic and jazz standards. Also, the program will include selections from the musical ‘Guys and Dolls.’ The selections are catchy and familiar and will invite you to hum and sing along.”
