Glacial Gardeners plant sale on May 25
FLORENCE, Wis. — The popular annual plant sale by the Glacial Gardeners, a non-profit organization, will be 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 25, in the pole barn at the Florence County Fairgrounds, on County Road N just south of Florence.
This is a rain-or-shine event. The doors do not open until 9 a.m. but participants are encouraged to come early and get a place in line, as the plants do sell fast. Cash or checks are accepted, but no debit or credit cards.
A wide variety of vegetables, annuals, houseplants and perennials as well as a table of miscellaneous rummage sale items will be available.
This year there will also be a bake sale table by the entrance.
Proceeds from the sale fund the Inga Fleming Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded annually to local students majoring in one of these qualifying programs: agriculture or applied economics, agricultural education, agronomy, botany, entomology, environmental sciences, forestry, horticulture, landscape architecture, plant pathology, soil science or wildlife ecology.
To date, they have awarded more than $31,000 in scholarships.
Proceeds also help fund local school and community projects.
Glacial Gardeners are associates of the Wisconsin Volunteer Association and work in conjunction with University of Wisconsin-Extension. They are involved in many projects in local communities and schools. Any questions can be sent to glacial.gardeners@gmail.com.
