Certified quilt appraisals to be done in Florence
FLORENCE, Wis. — The Wild Rivers Quilt Guild will provide an opportunity for interested quilt owners to have their quilts appraised by American Quilters Society certified quilt and quilted textile appraiser Allison Rainboth.
A few appointment slots remain for Wednesday, May 29. Appraisals will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 900 Central Ave. in Florence.
Those who would like to have a quilt appraised should send an email to wildriversquiltguild@gmail.com to be contacted to set up an appointment time.
The appraisal cost is $50. Appointments and pre-payment are required and due before Wednesday, May 22.
A qualified appraiser has been through extensive training and certification by a professional organization. They are trained and certified to give accurate information about the value of a quilt.
There are many reasons to have a quilt appraised. For newer quilts, the focus of the appraisal may be more on the design, workmanship and artistic merit. But vintage appraisals may hone in on the condition of the quilt, rarity of the design and historical significance.
A written appraisal will provide a depth of information about the quilt, help the owner learn more about the piece, and document the quilt’s value.
Those who sell or donate their work may find it helpful to have an appraiser set its value. In addition to objectively outlining the quilt’s historical significance, quality, craftsmanship, the value will also be noted by the appraiser. This might be useful for tax purposes, especially if the piece is donated.
If a quilt is damaged, lost, or stolen, having a written appraisal on file helps establish its worth and ensure appropriate compensation.
