Florence County Historical Society plans meeting for upcoming season

FLORENCE, Wis. — The Florence County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church, 409 Lake Ave. in Florence.

Plans for the upcoming season will be discussed, including a Veteran’s Recognition Day, the annual Quilt Show and Strawberry Social and the Quilt Raffle.

The museum will officially open from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 13.

New exhibits will include Past Celebrations of Labor Days, Reunion 2000, Centennial Daze, and Firemen Tournaments. Many photographs from these activities will be on display, but additional albums will be available for viewing.

Two smaller exhibits will feature the Mathee farm and area hunting camps. Additional items have also been added to the veteran’s room.

The membership hopes the community will stop in and view the new displays as well as the mining, logging and the Fisher exhibits.

The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays through Saturdays.

They are always looking for volunteers who might help during these hours at the museum.

Anyone interested can contact Karen Wertanen at 715-528-4744 or Debbie DeMuri at 715-528-3597.
