Florence history competitors
During the second semester, Florence eighth- and ninth-grade social studies students researched and created exhibit, documentary, paper and website projects for the 2024 National History Day competition. Topic focus was on the theme “Turning Points in History.” After a local judging by Florence County Historical Society members, local history buffs and retired teachers, students competed in the Wisconsin regional at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on March 8. Fourteen ninth-grade and six eighth-grade students qualified for the state competition, along with two alternates. Qualifiers traveled to UW-Madison on April 20, and presented with 400 other state competitors. There were no national qualifiers, but it was a great learning experience for all. From left, with their regional medals before heading off the Madison are, in front, Kelsi Chrisman, Bradley Steber, Abby Tibbs, Greta Nault, Serenity Aten and Taylor Fleming; in back are Bowen Spears, Luke Deterville, Carter Reed, Kyle Smith, Caleb Baker, Delaney Donahue, Jane Price, Quinn Cassidy, Ella Deroche, Lyla Nolan, Harper White, Jaylinn Kappes, Sienna Schmoll and Miley VanDenHeuval.
