Fourth-annual Invasive Species Trade-Up Days events planned

KINGSFORD — The fourth-annual Invasive Species Trade-Up Days event is returning this May with new drop-off locations.

The event kicked off Saturday at the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center grand re-opening in Florence, Wis.

Other drop-off locations, dates, and times are —

–Dickinson Conservation District, Kingsford: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

— Marinette County Land Information Department, Marinette, Wis.: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Thursday.

— Marinette County Fairgrounds, Wausaukee, Wis.: 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

— Forest County Courthouse, Crandon, Wis.: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 13-16.

— Menominee Conservation District, Menominee: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 16.

Trade-Up Days are a chance for landowners to remove an invasive species from their property, such as Japanese barberry, and exchange the plant for a monetary voucher. Each voucher is worth $5, and you can receive up to $50 if you bring in 10 or more invasive species.

“Vouchers are redeemable at participating greenhouses and plant sales for the purchase of a native plant replacement. Customers are responsible for any price difference. This year, we have an exciting list of native plant sellers,” said Katherine Mentel, WRISC project manager.

They include:

— Flowerland Greenhouse;

— Chenier’s Greenhouse;

— Danielson’s Greenhouse and Floral;

— Dickinson Conservation District Native Plant Sale;

— Spread Eagle Garden Center;

— Penny’s Plants and Pots;

— Northern Lights Master Gardeners Spring Plant Sale;

— Hanson’s Garden Village.

The Wild Rivers Invasive Species Coalition, a multi-partner organization representing five counties in two states, is dedicated to managing invasive species on our lands and waters through cooperation, education, prevention, and control.
