Wildflower Walk slated on Saturday

MARINETTE, Wis. — A guided spring Wildflower Walk is planned from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harmony Hardwoods Memorial Forest.

Although they are usually small and subtle, the variety and beauty of native flowers is worth exploring. Participants may see such species as trillium, bloodroot, bellwort, Dutchman’s breeches and spring beauty.

Those attending should wear good walking shoes or hiking boots and dress for the weather. Insect repellent is recommended.

The walk is about a mile and a half and has some uneven terrain, with a few inclines.

Everyone is asked to meet at the pavilion by the parking area; the event will be canceled if bad weather threatens.

Harmony Arboretum and Demonstration Gardens has been developed into a conservation and horticulture education demonstration area.

The arboretum includes a majestic hardwood forest, winding walking trails, a restored prairie, a children’s garden, and demonstration vegetable and flower gardens. It is open to the public year-round, free of charge.

Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions.

Harmony Hardwoods Memorial Forest is 7 miles west of Marinette on Highway 64, then south on County Highway E on the east side of the road.

Participants can search “Harmony Arboretum, Peshtigo, Wis.” on Google Maps.
