Senior event at Fortune Lake Camp
CRYSTAL FALLS — Fortune Lake Camp will begin a new season of bimonthly events for senior adults Monday.
The events will begin with coffee fellowship at 10 a.m. and will conclude by 2 p.m.
A timely topic after Crystal Falls’ annual Humongous Fungus Festival, the upcoming Senior Day will focus on mushroom foraging.
The Rev. Soren Schmidt, an expert forager, will share his personal knowledge about this fascinating search for food in area woods.
“I grew up loving nature and foraging for berries and morel mushrooms with my dad,” Schmidt said. “Living at Fortune Lake Camp and most recently in the Copper Country brought out a further love and interest in foraging and feasting on what God has provided in my surroundings, knowing that it was fresh from the woods or water to my table.”
Schmidt said, “my interest grew as I learned about the benefits for body and mind. I enjoy the hunt both alone and with others and the exploratory study of it all.” Schmidt is working towards becoming a certified professional in local mushrooming.
To make reservations for lunch, call the camp office at 906-214-2267. A donation of $15 is requested.
