Every month, they’ll have different stations designed to engage a child’s senses with fun activities such as tactile bins, sensory bottles, fine motor activities and early literacy activities. This is a special time for young children to discover and play at their own pace, though adults are asked to stay and supervise. While this event is ideal for newborns to age 4, older siblings are welcome, too.
— Monthly Book Club: 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.
This book club meets monthly at the Solomonson Branch. This month’s title will be “Follow the River” by James Thom.
— Fun Fungus Finding: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Fumee Lake Natural Area.
A local expert will teach attendees how to identify, forage and grow mushrooms in this area. This program is offsite, and participants will be responsible for their own transportation.
— Graveyard Shift Book Club: 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
This book club is perfect for teens and adults who love to read true crime, horror and/or books with supernatural elements. This month’s book discussion will be on “Road of Bones” by Christopher Golden. Discussion packets are available at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
— Terrarium Workshop: 6 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

— A Nurse’s Vietnam Story: 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
For several decades the critical role field nurses played remained somewhat unknown. Mary Stolze joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 1968 with a direct commission to go to Vietnam. As the daughter of a World War II doctor, this was something Stolze felt she needed to do. She debrided and sutured wounds for soldiers, Vietnamese, children and prisoners of war under conditions that included limited and outdated medicines, equipment, malaria, monsoon season and intense wildlife. By telling her story, recognition of the service and bravery these “Angels from Heaven” can be properly thanked and appreciated.
— The Titanic & Her Local Ties: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Emily Cummings, local history specialist, will present on the construction, voyage, passengers and sinking of the Titanic. Passengers with local ties will be highlighted in this presentation.
