AURORA, Wis. — The second week of Food, Fun and Fitness, operated by the Florence County University of Wisconsin-Extension at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College site in Aurora, was full of hands-on creativity, treats and outdoor fun.
Campers kicked off the week by planting flowers and learning about gardening, then got messy making their own slime and mini aquariums.
In nutrition class, they whipped up homemade trail mix and a surprisingly tasty chocolate hummus made with chickpea beans.
Water play was a highlight, with kids laughing through water balloon tosses, running through sprinklers and building sand castles using pool noodles.
Campers also crafted colorful paper plate pufferfish.

It was a week full of learning, laughter and lasting memories, an event coordinator said.
The Food, Fun and Fitness program extends a thank you to Craig Soderberg and Kay Pestor of Freedom Greenhouse and Fireworks in Florence, Wis., and everyone involved for their generous donation of flowers. Because of all the support, all 150 participants in the program had the opportunity to dig in the dirt and plant some flowers.
Food, Fun and Fitness was a summer day camp for children entering first through fifth grades that started June 16 and continued to July 16. Mondays and Wednesdays were at Florence County Elementary School, while Tuesdays and Thursdays were at the NWTC site in Aurora; students may only be enrolled in one location.
