The Suns of Memphis to take stage in Norway

The Suns of Memphis — featuring Matt Beaudo on the upright bass, Aaron Brill on guitar, and Jesse Peterson on drums — will perform for the fifth Music in the Park concert of the season at 7 p.m. Thursday at the band shell on Main Street in downtown Norway.

NORWAY — This week, Music in the Park welcomes the Suns of Memphis for the fifth concert of the summer.

The free summertime music series continues at 7 p.m. Thursday at the band shell on Main Street in downtown Norway.

Keeping the juke joints jumpin’ and the dance halls hoppin’, the Suns of Memphis are purveyors of bonafide rockabilly, honky tonk and real country music.

The band hails from Menominee, Mich., and features Matt Beaudo on the upright bass, Aaron Brill on guitar, and Jesse Peterson on drums.

The Suns of Memphis draw material from the earliest days of rockabilly at Sun Records, add a healthy dose of roots rock and country, and top it off with some of their own original music.

Event coordinator Carol Sundstrom notes the audiences will hear some of their favorite songs by artists such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Horton, Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Hank Thompson, Webb Pierce, Merle Haggard, Faron Young, BR5-49, The Stray Cats and more.

“We hope to have another great Music in the Park audience present to hear their performance,” she said.

Sundstrom encourages the community to attend this week’s Out to Lunch concert, featuring The Pink Violin Band. “Enjoy the afternoon, have a nice dinner in the area and come on down to beautiful band shell park to hear the timeless music from this great trio,” Sundstrom said.

The beautiful weather Thursday evening had live music fans packing band shell park, and the fourth Music in the Park concert in Norway didn’t disappoint.

The Make Believe Spurs, new to the series, gave a very well-received performance to an appreciative live music crowd, she said.

In case of inclement weather, concerts will take place at the Crossroads Church, home of Grace United Methodist/Bethany Lutheran, on Odill Drive behind the Norway Historical Museum on the east edge of Norway. For updates, go to the Norway Music in the Park Facebook page.
