August activities at Dickinson County Library

IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson County Library events for August include:

— “Color Our World” Storytime Sessions: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday and 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Kids through age 5 will go on a colorful adventure through stories, songs, crafts and activities that promote early literacy to create lifelong readers. The summer reading theme “Color Our World” was designed to inspire and engage readers of all ages through a diverse array of artistic expressions.

— Dickinson County Library Board meeting: 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

— Tom Pease: 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; and 1 to 3 p.m. at the City Hall in Norway.

Pease is known for his infectious sense of fun and community building. With movement, sign language, humor, and joy, he creates concerts that leave audiences laughing and singing for days.

— Bow Wows and Books: 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Patrons of all ages are invited to read to therapy dogs Angel and Roz. Time slots are limited to 15 minutes each. Registration is required — call 906-774-1218.

— Crafts From the Past: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

The library invites the community to make an assortment of “Crafts From the Past.” They will have pirate masks to blue buffaloes and more. Dress up as a favorite decade and enjoy a few snacks from the past as well.

— Friends of the Library meeting: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

— Messy Masterpieces: 5 to 5:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Kids in third through eighth grades will get messy with tie dyeing and mug decorating. Participants will get to tie dye a cotton bag provided by the library; however, they may also bring in shirts to tie dye as well. Registration is required — call 906-774-1218.

— “Color Our World” Rock Painting: 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Felch Community Center.

Participants of all ages will get rocks to paint on and are encouraged to leave them somewhere in the community to help “Color Our World.”

— Solomonson Monthly Book Club: 2 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

This month, the Norway Book Club will read “North Woods” by Daniel Mason. New members are always welcome.

— Fruit Tote Bag Painting: 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Local artist Sarah Rice will conduct a tote bag painting class for adults and teens. She will show participants how to stamp tote bags with fruit to make cute designs.

— Bow Wows and Books: 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

Patrons of all ages are invited to read to therapy dogs Azul and Belle. Time slots are limited to 15 minutes each. Registration is required — call 906-774-1218.

— The library will be closed Sunday, Aug. 31, and Monday, Sept. 1, for Labor Day.
