Old Victoria Craft Fair set for Sunday
ROCKLAND — The Old Victoria Historical Site will have its 42nd-annual Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time Sunday on the grounds of the historic copper mining village just outside of Rockland in Ontonagon County.
Three of the four restored cabins and the sauna will be open for self-guided tours free of charge for the event. The hand-hewn log cabins display how the miners and their families lived. Tour guides will be available to share the history of the Victoria Copper Mine and the people who braved the wilderness to live and work there.
Visitors can browse a wide variety of arts, crafts, and food products from local artisans on the rolling lawn of the heritage site. At 1:30 p.m., old-fashioned kids games will take place on the upper lawn, including sack races, water relays and more. Children who participate always have loads of fun earning small treats with the friendly competitions, and the games are a blast for adults to watch as well.
Don’t miss trying one of Old Victoria’s famous cinnamon rolls — volunteers make and bake the gooey rolls from scratch on site in the old-fashioned wood stove. Dripping with homemade icing, these are a delightful treat that bring people from hours away year after year to enjoy.
Old Victoria is 4 miles outside of Rockland on Victoria Dam Road. Those interested in being a vendor at this year’s show can call 906-281-7412, email oldvictoria1899@gmail.com or find Old Victoria on Facebook.
