Lt. Jeremy Hauswirth, commander of the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post, was guest speaker at the Iron Mountain-Kingsford General Federation of Women’s Clubs September luncheon at Pine Grove Country Club in Mountain. Hauswirth gave a presentation on “New Scams and how to Avoid Them.” He discussed imposter scams, grandson scams, AI scams in which people call sounding like someone else and toll scams. If someone calls and wants you to buy gift cards for a payment, don’t do it; it is a scam, he warned. They will ask for the code number on the card and “poof,” your money is gone, he said.
