KHS student Erickson chosen for DAR Good Citizen award

Alex Erickson
KINGSFORD — Kingsford High School senior Alexander Erickson has been selected by his school as this year’s National Society Daughters of the American Revolution “Good Citizen Representative” for the Onagomingkway Chapter.
He is the son of Tony and Laddavone “Bee” Erickson of Kingsford.
The DAR Good Citizenship Award is presented to one student at KHS who demonstrates to an outstanding degree the qualities of: dependability — truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality; service — cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others; leadership — personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility; and patriotism — unselfish interest in family, school, community, and nation.
Erickson strives to embody these qualities through her leadership.
He has established a strong record both in and out of the classroom. He maintains a respectable grade-point average, is taking dual enrollment courses, and is involved in extracurriculars, including basketball and a variety of school and community clubs.
His leadership potential was recognized early when he was selected to attend MyLead during his sophomore year. He currently is a Kingsford High School student ambassador, a member of the KHS Yearbook, the 4-H Big Shooters Club, and the Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club. He has accumulated approximately 465 hours of community service.
Erickson has been gaining experience with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department through a work-based learning opportunity since last year. He reflected on the core value of service, stating, “Serving the community and others has always been a part of my life. At the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, my service went beyond just doing the job. I was contributing to the safety and order of the community. Even through photography, I was serving the community by capturing moments that last a lifetime. From family, athletes, and friends, I was contributing to the memories of others. Service, to me, is putting others first and knowing that what I do makes a difference.”
“On behalf of Kingsford High School and Breitung Township Schools, I’m proud to recognize Alexander Erickson as this year’s recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Award. Alex represents what this award is all about — dependability, service, leadership and patriotism,” Kingsford High School Principal David Lindbeck said. “He has shown those qualities in the classroom, in our school community, and at home. His teachers, classmates, and our administration all agree that Alex lives out these values every day at the highest level. His hard work and character have left a lasting mark on Kingsford High School, and he has set a great example for others to follow.”
“We are proud of him and excited to see the impact he will continue to make in the years ahead,” he added.
After graduation, Erickson plans to attend college to study criminal justice before entering the police academy.
