IRON MOUNTAIN — For more than 15 years, the employees of the First National Bank & Trust have supported the Salvation Army Coats for Kids Program by collecting returnable cans and purchasing much needed winter items.

This year, they were able to donate six snowsuit sets, a snowsuit, seven two-piece combo coats, nine coats, three Wrangler fleece hoodies, four snowpants, 18 pairs of winter boots, 23 hand/hat/glove sets, 12 pairs stretch gloves and 20 pairs of waterproof mittens.

According to Salvation Army Director Tara Coss, they coordinate with other local non-profit food pantries to cloth and feed over 120 “extreme need” families in the area each year.

Applications for assistance can be picked up at the Salvation Army office in Kingsford and are being accepted through early December for Christmas.

The Salvation Army also has an “Angel Tree” program.

Donors who wish to adopt a person or family for Christmas can contact the local office at 906-779-5717.

On Nov. 12, they will start their kettle bell ringing campaign, which is their biggest fundraiser of the year.

The Salvation Army Bread of Life Center maintains a food pantry and provides other forms of assistance as funds permit.

If anyone would like to donate cash, non-perishable food items to the Salvation Army or make an appointment for their services, they can contact their office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Fridays. They can be reached at 906 779-5717 or at 145 Roseland St. in Kingsford.

Starting at $3.50/week.
