IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain alumni, family and friends now have the opportunity to look through digitalized copies of the school yearbook.
Editions of The Argonaut, going back to 1916, have been digitalized and are now available on the school’s website. But be warned — once you start looking through old yearbooks, you may lose a couple of hours.
The idea came from Maryssa Gussert, school communications coordinator.
“I wanted alumni and community members to have access to the beautiful history of Iron Mountain Public Schools. We often have requests to view our yearbook archive, and this will allow the public to view it at their leisure,” she said.
The new online collection makes it easy to explore more than a century of Iron Mountain history, according to Gussert. A built-in search-by-text feature allows visitors to find specific names, clubs and events in seconds, though the feature may not be available for all years. School memories, from class portraits and sports highlights to dances and senior quotes, are just a click away.
Gussert said they utilized a company called Bound Book Scanning in New York state. “We did have assistance from the Menominee Range Historical Museum, who allowed us to borrow their copy of the 1920 IMHS yearbook for the project,” she added.
The digital catalog will continue to grow, with new yearbooks added every 10 years.
The public can browse the collection at imschools.org/en-US/yearbookcatalog.
