IRON MOUNTAIN — Thanksgiving will be extra special for a local dancer and teacher from the 906 Sports Academy in Iron Mountain.
Mira Johnson will be performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, starting at 8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving. She is a sophomore at Kingsford High School.
For more than 12 years, Johnson has been a dedicated, talented, and beautifully hearted dancer with The 906 Sports Academy. She has touched the hearts of her instructors, teammates, and students and now she’s taking her passion all the way to New York City.
She has earned this opportunity after being awarded The Passion Award, presented by Kathrine Trempe, owner, and the instructors the dance studio.
“This award is given to a dancer who truly represents what it means to live and breathe the art of dance,” Trempe said.
Here’s a glimpse of why she earned it:
— She has shown complete grace and passion in her dance education.
— Her growth the past seasons have been tremendous, and she continues to push herself daily.
— Hard-working, dedicated, and punctual — she has never missed a class, a rehearsal, or a chance to dance.
— She sets goals and always surpasses them.
— She loves her teammates and supports them any way she can.
— She strives for excellence, while still having so much joy and fun through the process.
— She is present, focused, and takes every correction as an opportunity to grow — both as a dancer and as a young lady. She is a leader in and out of the studio.
“We are beyond proud and incredibly honored to work with someone as remarkable as Mira. This moment is so well deserved and we can’t wait to watch her shine on the national stage,” Trempe said.
