KINGSFORD — Traditions are one of the things that make the holidays special. We enjoy reunions with family and friends. We share gifts, greetings and smiles. Maybe we get a chance to wear that Christmas sweater and hang lights around the house.

On Monday, Dec. 15 the Golden K group celebrated a holiday tradition with a special bunch of kids. Children with special needs, along with their teachers and caretakers, joined festivities that included music, Santa, lunch and gifts.

More than 70 participants were served by more than 30 Golden K staff and volunteers. Schools represented included Willis Center, Norway Elementary, Norway Junior High and High in School, Crystal Falls Elementary and Secondary and Florence County. Niagara could not attend but was provided with gift bags.

Thanks goes out to the sheriff’s department and community service workers who provided gifts of handmade blankets and pillows. Thank you also to the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford that provided the space and kitchen facilities. A talented Jim Janofski provided an assortment of holiday music on various instruments. Brett Calcari emceed the event.

We all have traditions that make us feel welcome and warm. The excitement and smiles from these kids reminds us how important it is to be thankful and share the season’s blessings and joy.
