Free tax assistance offered at the Dickinson County Library

IRON MOUNTAIN — AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service, will offer services at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Registration is required; those interested can call 906-970-9222.

The program offers free tax preparation help to anyone, especially those who are 50 or older and are of low to middle income. Membership in AARP is not required.

An instruction sheet on the process, as well as a list of documents necessary to prepare the tax return, may be picked up at the library.

Volunteers will begin doing taxes the second week of February.

Registered taxpayers will be called to set up an appointment. Appointments typically take one to two hours, and include a comprehensive review of the completed return with the taxpayer.

AARP Tax-Aide is administered through the AARP Foundation in cooperation with the IRS and Michigan Department of Treasury.

Volunteers are trained and IRS certified each year to ensure their knowledge of revisions to the U.S. Tax Code.
