Dickinson County Library announces upcoming events

IRON MOUNTAIN — Upcoming events at the Dickinson County Library will include:

— Take Your Child to the Library Day: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. today at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Families are invited to come play laser tag at the library. This is an after-hours activity that will have your family exploring the whole library. The kids’ room will be completely blacked out for glow in the dark, and snacks will be provided. The event will take place after hours, so participants must arrive before the library closes at 3:30 p.m. The program does require registration and spots are limited; call 906-774-1218.

— Community Helpers Storytime: All sessions are from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.; Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; Friday at the Solomonson Branch in Norway; Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; Friday, Feb. 20, at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township; Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; and Friday, Feb. 27, at the Solomonson Branch.

Kids through age 5 are welcome to learn all about the people that make their communities work. Through singing, dancing and storytelling, they will hear how vital chefs are in the communities. Storytimes build early literacy skills, communication skills and fine motor skills.

— Lego Club: 3:15 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.

The program for kids in kindergarten through eighth grades offers the opportunity to be creative while building with Legos. This month, kids will be challenged to make Plinko boards.

— Board meeting: 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

— Bow Wows and Books: 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway. Required registration opens a week before the respective sessions; call 906-774-1218 for the Iron Mountain registration and 906-563-8617 for registration at the Norway branch.

Patrons of all ages and reading abilities are invited to read to therapy dogs. Time slots are 15 minutes long.

— Love in a Mug: 5 to 5:45 p.m. Friday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Ages 7 though 13 are invited to a Valentine’s Day-themed mug decorating. Not only that, but participants will also make their own hot chocolate creation with marshmallows and candy canes. This is a free gift to create and give for Valentine’s Day, or to keep all for yourself. Registration is required; call 906-774-1218.

— Book Breakdown with Jessie Garcia: 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Jessie Garcia, an award-winning sports journalist, will be at the library to speak about her years working with the Green Bay Packers. Garcia was Wisconsin’s first female sports anchor and is currently the news director at the CBS affiliate in Milwaukee. Her non-fiction books, “My Life with the Green and Gold: Tales from 20 Years of Sportscasting” and “Going for Wisconsin Gold: Stories of our State Olympians” won Midwest Book Awards. Books will be available for purchase as well as signing. There will be prize drawings to win a free book.

— Little Senses Playgroup: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

The Little Senses Playgroup is perfect for little hands to explore. Every month they’ll have different stations designed to engage the child’s senses with fun activities such as tactile bins, sensory bottles, fine motor activities and early literacy activities. This is a special time for young children to discover and play at their own pace; they ask that an adult stays to supervise. While the event is ideal for through age 4, older siblings are welcome.

— Norway Monthly Book Club: 2 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

This month they will be reading “And Then We Hit a Rock” by Greg Buenzli. New members are always welcome.

— Gamers’ Club: 3:15 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.

The program is a great afterschool activity for kids in third through eighth grades. Kids can stop in and play their favorite video games and board games. Games such as Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. and Minecaft will be available.

— A reminder to mark calendars from March 6-8 for the 2026 Prom Dress Swap. All library branches are now accepting donations of clean and gently used dresses, ties, shoes and accessories for the annual event. The swap allows teens to come in and choose a dress and accessories free of charge.
