According to the Britannica website, “pi (π), in mathematics is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. The Greek letter π was first used by British mathematician William Jones in 1706 to represent the ratio and was later popularized by Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler. Because pi is irrational — not equal to the ratio of any two whole numbers, its digits do not repeat, and an approximation such as 3.14 or 22/7 is often used for everyday calculations. To 39 decimal places, pi is 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197.
Pi Day was first celebrated in 1988 by the physicist Larry Shaw, who at the time was working at the Exploratorium, which is a science museum in San Francisco.
“The concert is free of charge, and we do hope people come out for this unique event filled with good music and good food,” Library Director Evelyn Gathu said.
The library is at 237 Superior Ave. in downtown Crystal Falls.
