Dickinson County Library March events announced
IRON MOUNTAIN — Upcoming events at the Dickinson County Library will include:
— Stress ReDUCKtion Month: Now through March 31 at all Dickinson County Library sites.
Tiny rubber ducks will be hidden at all three of the library branches all month long. If you find a duck hidden in the shelves, you’ll win a goody bag of stress-relief items.
— Lego Club: Today, 3:15 to 4 p.m. at the North Dickinson branch in Felch Township.
The program for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade offers the opportunity to be creative while building with Legos. At this month’s meeting, participants will be challenged to make Lego codes. They will use color and number coding to make a secret message and try to debunk other participants’ secret messages.
— Board meeting: Today, 5 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
— Bow Wows and Books: 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain and 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.
Patrons of all ages and reading abilities are invited to read to therapy dogs. Time slots are 15 minutes long. Registration is required and opens a week before the respective sessions. — March Reading Month Book Bingo: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain and 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at the North Dickinson Branch.
To celebrate reading month, kids ages 5 to 12 are invited to play Book Bingo. Prizes will include books, bookmarks, and stickers. Cake and snacks will be provided. Registration is required for the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; call 906-774-1218.
— Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia: 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Guest speaker Jonathan Vanderlugt will appear at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain to share information on Alzheimer’s and dementia. Vanderlugt will discuss the differences between Alzheimer’s and dementia, the stages of Alzheimer’s disease, and risk factors to look out for. He will cover current research and available treatments and share ways the Alzheimer’s Association can help.
— Diamond Art: 5 to 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the Felch Senior Center in Felch Township.
Diamond art is a relaxing and easy craft for all ages and will take place during the center’s monthly evening meal. The librarians will have diamond art bookmarks available for adults, and diamond art stickers available for children.
— Little Senses Playgroup: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
The playgroup is perfect for little hands to explore. Every month, they’ll have different stations designed to engage a child’s senses with fun activities like tactile bins, sensory bottles, fine motor activities and early literacy activities. This is a special time for young children to discover and play at their own pace. They ask that an adult stays to supervise. While this event is ideal for youth through age 4, older siblings are welcome, too.
— Norway Monthly Book Club: 2 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.
This month discussion will be on “The Cloisters” by Katy Hays. New members are always welcome.
— Crafty Creations-Cactus Gardens: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 23, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain, and 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.
The monthly Crafty Creation project features small cactus gardens. Participants will receive a small clay pot to decorate and fill with rocks painted to look like cacti. A perfect craft to liven up a room with no care needed.
— BIG TIME Storytime: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, March 24, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Friday, March 27, at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township; and 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Through singing, dancing and storytelling, kids through age 5 will learn about big ideas, animals and so much more! Storytimes build early literacy, communication and fine motor skills.
— Gamers’ Club: 3:15 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.
The program is a great afterschool activity for kids in third through eighth grades. Kids are welcome to stop in and play their favorite video games and board games. Games such as “Mario Kart,” “Super Smash Brothers,” and “Minecraft” will be available.
— Winter Blues Staycation Party: 2 to 3 p.m.Tuesday, March 31, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Are your little ones getting the winter blues this spring break? Don’t worry, have a staycation with Bluey. Kids age 5 to 8 are invited to a spring-break party. Watch episodes of “Bluey” and play Bluey-themed games. Pinatas, masks, activities and snacks will all be available. A great activity for kids to get out of the house in a safe and fun environment.
