CRYSTAL FALLS — Teresa Tibbs-Tacke has started the third year of her popular Literature and Film Course at the Crystal Falls Community District Library.

“Literature and film night is my favorite night of the whole month. Every month we are given an assignment of reading a novel, short story, play, or poem, and then we watch the film version and discuss them both,” Library Director Evelyn Gathu said. “I always think I know a lot, but once Teresa starts talking about the directing, writing, cinematography, etc., my mind is blown.”

Gathu noted that Tibbs-Tacke went to film school in Arizona and is very knowledgeable.

“You will learn in this course,” she said.

They usually meet at 4 p.m. the last Thursday of the month, and always share a light meal together. The class is free of charge.

“Our hope is you will come every month, but you can come to just the months you are interested in also,” she said.

— Thursday: The 1994 book “In the Time of the Butterflies” by Julia Alvarez and the 2001 movie of the same name directed by Mariano Barroso.

— April 30: The 1996 book “Watch that Man” by Robert Farrar and the 1997 movie “The Man Who Knew Too Little,” directed by John Amiel.

— May 28: The 1949 play “Death of a Salesman,” by Arthur Miller and the 1987 movie directed by Volker Schlondorff.

— June 25: The 1900 book “The Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum and the 1978 movie “The Wiz,” directed by Sidney Lumet.

— July 30: The 1812 fairy tale “Rapunzel” by the Brothers Grimm and the 2010 animated movie “Tangled,” directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard.

— Aug. 27: The 1920 novel “The Age of Innocence” by Edith Wharton and the 1993 movie of the same name by Martin Scorsese.

— Sept. 24: The 2006 novel, “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy and the 2014 movies of the same name directed by John Hillcoat.

— Oct. 29: The 2009 novel “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn and the 2014 movie of the same name directed by David Fincher.

— Nov. 26: The 1986 graphic novel “Watchmen” by Alan Moore and the 2009 movie of the same name directed by Zack Snyder.

— Dec. 17: The 1943 short story “The Greatest Gift” by Phillip Van Doren Stern and the 1946 movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” by Frank Capra.
