NORWAY — Alyssa dela Cruz, a 2026 Norway High School graduate, was chosen as the Good Citizen for 2026 by the Onagomingkway Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
To be considered for the award, dela Cruz was first selected by staff at her school for showing academic achievement, as well as participating in extracurricular activities and community events.
Once chosen, dela Cruz sat for a two-hour extemporaneous paper describing how the characteristics of a good citizen help to renew and strengthen the democracy achieved by the Patriots of the American Revolution.
Dela Cruz’s paper was judged against a dozen other entries from across the western Upper Peninsula and was selected as chapter winner. She then went on to state level competition.
The daughter of Kristen Ball and Michael dela Cruz will attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall to study animal science as a pre-vet student focusing on large animals.
She grew up around large farm animals on her family homestead, which was recognized by the state after 100 years in operation.
