Monday was a beautiful day for all the events that occur on Memorial Day. Tuesday, the Golden K facilitated the annual picnic for children with special needs and their aides.
It was a spectacular warm day and as the buses pulled in, the students were thrilled to be at the City Park.
Jim Benzing met each bus. As the doors opened, he stepped back, giving the children plenty of room to run for the games and the playground.
Pastor Jim Janofski brought his many instruments and provided music for all to enjoy.
Golden K seniors plan three outings for the these children every year. The excitement they bring spills over to all the people who assist for these events. Thanks to the schools that were able to attend and the many volunteers that helped.
Kendra Trulock, RSVP assistant, and Susan Lucas, RSVP director, rolled up their sleeves and jumped in to help wherever needed. Planning, preparing and presenting fun times for these special people is a blessing to experience and cannot be duplicated any other way.
Afterwards, we were all thankful for a cool shower and a recliner. It was a well-earned rest for the Golden Kers, families, and friends.
If there is such a thing as a good tired, this would be it.
Golden K meets at 10 a.m. on Mondays at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. The public is invited to attend any meeting.
