LSSU’s Escanaba/Iron Mountain Regional Center has UP grads

SAULT STE. MARIE -- Six Upper Peninsula residents have earned bachelor's degrees from Lake Superior State University through LSSU's Escanaba/Iron Mountain Regional Center, which offers baccalaureate degree programs for students on Bay College campuses.
The graduates attended LSSU's commencement ceremony May 2 on the main campus in Sault Ste. Marie.
Graduating with a bachelor of arts in English language arts teaching (grade band 5-12) was Isabella Norden of Escanaba.
Graduating with a bachelor of science in accounting and a bachelor of science in business administration-management was Rayna Silverstein of Norway.
Graduating with a bachelor of science in business administration-management was Monica Chartier of Iron Mountain.
Graduating with a bachelor of science in business administration with an accounting-finance minor was Trever Englund of Escanaba.
Graduating with a bachelor of science in teacher education were Reagan Erickson of Iron Mountain and Robin Schafer of Gladstone. Both graduates earned concentrations in grades PreK-3.
Norden and Schafer graduated with summa cum laude honors, earning a 3.90-4.00 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Erickson and Silverstein graduated with magna cum laude honors, earning a 3.70-3.89 cumulative GPA. Chartier graduated with cum laude honors, earning a 3.50-3.69 cumulative GPA.
"Completing my degree through the Regional Center allowed me to stay local while pursuing my goal of becoming a teacher. Staying close to home saved me a significant amount of money and made earning my degree more accessible. I am especially grateful for Dr. Chad Barbour, whose guidance and support had a meaningful impact on my experience and helped prepare me for my career in education," Norden said.
Students completed their coursework through LSSU's Escanaba/Iron Mountain Regional Centers, in partnership with Bay College, allowing students to pursue LSSU bachelor's degrees on Bay College campuses.
