Strawberry Social, Quilt Show set for July 18 in Florence
Shown is the annual Strawberry Social and Quilt Show’s first-place raffle prize donated and made by local quilter Joan Spears. The quilt is in a design of “Amish Stars” that has been long-arm quilted by Patti Wabitsch.
FLORENCE, Wis. — The Florence County Historical Society will have its annual Strawberry Social and Quilt Show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18.
They will offer strawberry shortcake and a beverage to enjoy on the patio and grounds of Maxsells, 209 Central Ave./U.S. 2.
A new array of quilts and quilted items will be on display in the restored historic home.
There is no charge to view the quilt show. A minimum donation of $5 for strawberry shortcake and a beverage supports the Historical Society in providing new and interesting exhibits for the museum.
Tours of the historic home with Rachel Egelseer will be offered with a donation to the society of $3 per person or $5 for a couple.
The society is still accepting quilts of all sizes and ages to display for the show. Anyone interested can contact Debbie DeMuri at 715-528-3597.
The event and raffle are the major fundraising activities of the Historical Society.
Local quilter Joan Spears made and donated the first-prize quilt made in a design of “Amish Stars,” which was long-arm quilted by Patti Wabitsch. Other prizes made by local artisans will be announced soon.
Raffle tickets will be available at the quilt show, the museum, and from members for $1 each or six tickets for $5 throughout the summer. The drawing is set for Sept. 5. You do not have to be present to win; however, prizes will have to be picked up at the museum.
The museum, at 201 Florence Ave., is open from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday through Saturday. They invite visitors to see their new exhibits. A new display in the veterans room features photos and information on two women who served, Cecelia Kosiba and Cora Kinnear. Other new features include the original post offices in Florence County and additional information about the Fire Towers and Percy Porter.
The Historical Society always welcomes new members. They meet at 2 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the museum.
