Two local students graduate from Albion College

Names in the News

ALBION, Mich. — Two local students received degrees from Albion College during spring commencement ceremonies.

Iron Mountain student Ellison Powell graduated summa cum laude with a degree in political science and a concentration in the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service. Powell is the daughter of Jeffery and Shannon Powell of Iron Mountain and a graduate of Iron Mountain High School.

Powell was also named to the Albion College spring 2026 dean’s list. This is the sixth semester on the dean’s list for Powell. Albion College’s dean’s list recognizes students who achieve a 3.5 or higher grade-point average while taking four graded courses.

Kingsford student Matthew Wilson graduated with a degree in chemistry and minors in psychology and educational studies. Wilson is the son of Stephanie and Erik Wilson of Kingsford and is a graduate of Kingsford High School.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point honored more than 2,500 undergraduate students for attaining high grade-point averages during the spring semester of the 2025-2026 academic year.

Full-time undergraduates who earned grade points of 3.90 to 4.0 are given the highest honors designation. High honor citations go to those with grade point averages from 3.75 to 3.89 and honor recognition is accorded to those with grade point averages from 3.50 to 3.74.

Local students who received honors include:

Florence, Wis. — Ava DeBoo, honors; Leah Young, highest honors;

Kingsford — Jaxon Buckley, highest honors.

WINONA, Minn. — Garrett Brown of Iron Mountain was named to the 2026 spring semester dean’s list at Saint Mary’s University.

The list includes undergraduate students who earned a grade-point average of 3.60 or better on a 4.0 scale.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Several local students were named to the Southern New Hampshire University spring 2026 president’s list. The spring terms run from January to May.

Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President’s List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired eight-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer.

Local students include:

Foster City — Amanda Larson;

Kingsford — Erin Towns, Kianna Eisenreich, Dillon Gard;

Iron Mountain — Christie Olson, Rene Miles.

WHITEWATER, Wis. — Mathew Schultz of Kingsford was named to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater dean’s list for the 2026 spring semester.

These students have demonstrated their academic abilities by receiving a grade-point average of 3.4 or above in a single semester.

OSHKOSH, Wis. — University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh officials have released the names of students who qualified for the dean’s list and university honor roll in spring 2026.

The term grade-point average requirement for university honor roll is 3.3; the term GPA requirement for dean’s list is 3.75 out of a possible 4.0.

To qualify, a student must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits, with no individual grades below a C and no incomplete or non-reported grades at the time the process is run.

Local students include

Florence, Wis. — Allison Wood, honor roll;

Iron Mountain — Oskar Kangas, dean’s list; Makiah Minerick, dean’s list.

MILWAUKEE — Kyle Mayberry of Crystal Falls and Jackson Starkey of Gaastra were named to the spring semester 2026 dean’s list at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. They are both pursuing a bachelor of science in civil engineering.

Students taking undergraduate courses who have earned at least 12 credits in residence at MSOE, are in good academic standing, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher are on the dean’s list. Students on that list who have maintained a 3.70 or higher receive high honors. Students with a term GPA of 3.20 or higher who are not on the dean’s list are on the honors list.

MILWAUKEE — The following students have been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2026 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee

Earning honors were Masyn Alexa of Channing, studying for his master’s degree, physician assistant studies; and Luisa Munoz Ozzello, earning her bachelor of science, biomedical sciences. Ozzello was awarded her degree in May.

To make the dean’s list, students must have earned at least 12 credits for the spring 2026 semester and have no disqualifying grades. The GPA threshold varies by college — for the College of Education and the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences, undergraduate students must have at least a 3.7 to be named to the dean’s list.

The undergraduate GPA requirement is 3.5 for these colleges: the Diederich College of Communication, the College of Business Administration, the College of Health Sciences, the Opus College of Engineering and the College of Nursing.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Two local students were named to the dean’s list at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

They are: Grace Fulfer of Niagara, Wis., College of Arts and Science; and Averie Popp of Norway, College of Health and Human Sciences.

Students must earn a minimum or 12 credits and have a minimum GPA of 3.70.

KENOSHA, Wis. — Carthage College recognizes Lilly Post of Crystal Falls for her academic achievement and being named to the spring 2026 dean’s list.

Dean’s list honors are accorded to Carthage students who achieve a minimum 3.5 grade-point average while carrying at least 12 letter-graded credits in a given semester.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Jack Gasperich of Crystal Falls was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2026 semester at Belmont University.

Dean’s list eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade-point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.

SUPERIOR, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Superior has named Robin Nicolls of Florence, Wis., to the dean’s list for academic achievement during the spring 2026 semester.

To be named to the dean’s list, students must have completed 12 degree-seeking semester credits and achieved at least a 3.50 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

SAULT STE. MARIE — Tina Sundelius of Iron River was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2026 semester at Lake Superior State University.

To make the dean’s list, students must achieve a minimum of 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Sundelius is studying for her bachelor of science in teacher education and is the daughter of Carol Sundelius of Iron River.
