MARQUETTE -- The Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association invites authors to participate in its U.P. Libraries Program, an opportunity to place books directly into the hands of librarians attending the U.P. Regional Library Conference on Sept. 21-22 in Marquette.
The conference brings together librarians and library staff from across Michigan's Upper Peninsula to share ideas, discover new resources and explore books of interest to their communities. Through UPPAA's program, participating authors can provide copies of their books to be included in conference tote bags and displays, introducing their work to library professionals responsible for building collections and recommending titles to readers.
The initiative is designed to increase awareness of Upper Peninsula authors and books with regional appeal. Librarians play a critical role in connecting readers with local history, fiction, memoirs, children's books, and other works that reflect the culture, heritage, and distinctive character of the U.P.
"This is a once-a-year opportunity for U.P. librarians to browse and take home the very best regional literature for their patrons' collections," said Evelyn Gathu, director of the Crystal Falls District Community Library and the 2025 U.P. Librarian of the Year. "When patrons learn about local authors, it inspires them to learn more about their own region and value its culture."

"Getting books into the hands of librarians is one of the most effective ways to build long-term readership," Victor R. Volkman, president of UPPAA. "This program helps showcase the remarkable talent of Upper Peninsula authors while supporting libraries in their mission to serve local communities."
Authors interested in participating can find program details, deadlines, and registration information through UPPAA. Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
