VNL Lions Club’s 54th-annual Community Picnic on Sunday
NORWAY — The Vulcan-Norway-Loretto Lions Club invites area residents to its annual fundraising picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Marion Park in Norway.
They will again feature their famous grilled chicken dinners, along with brats, hot dogs, ice cream, pop and water.
There will be games and face painting for the children and many raffle prizes to be given away.
The club will have many tents set up for the day so all are welcome to bring chairs to help with the seating.
Raffle tickets are available from all Lions members and will be available at Marion Park on the day of the picnic.
The picnic is the major fundraising event for the Lions Club. They are again hoping the surrounding area will help make the picnic a huge success.
Money raised enables the club to give thousands of dollars to many local, regional and state charities, with more than 90% staying here in the U.P.
This year, the club gave five $1,000 scholarships to local seniors, donated to the Lions Little League baseball team, Lions all-state band, youth football, summer programs at the Norway Library, Area 38 Special Olympics, Kid Sight hearing and speech programs, Boys and Girls State, State Fair 4-H, eyeglasses, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Bay Cliff Health Camp, Eversight, Lions Foundations for Special Olympics, Norway Food Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry of Norway, Family Christmas — Salvation Army program, Habitat for Humanity, Caring House, Northwood’s AirLifeline, Lions of Michigan Foundation and Lions International Foundation.
An ongoing project the club has become involved with is Lions Fighting Childhood Cancer. Starting in 2022, the club partnered with the Tour Da Yoop, Eh in an effort to raise money for families dealing with childhood cancer. Participating cyclists will be going through large and small towns as donations are collected throughout the tour. The V-N-L Lions will sponsor a hydration station in Faithorn for the participating cyclists Saturday, July 25. More information will be announced at a future date.
“Please come and spend the afternoon with us at Marion Park and help the Lions help others,” Club Treasurer Terry Backlund said.
Anyone wishing to support the Lions Club’s worthy causes can send monetary donations to V-N-L Treasurer Terry Backlund, P.O. Box 101, Norway, MI 49870.
We hope to See EVERYONE, July 12th, at Marion Park in Norway.
