FLORENCE, Wis. -- The Florence County Historical Society is offering something new --the opportunity to step inside one of Florence's historic homes while enjoying a traditional tea.
In response to requests from people interested in seeing the interior of the stately yellow Victorian Webb-Judge House near the Historical Society Museum, Rachel Egelseer will host "Tea and Tours" from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursdays through the end of August.
The tea includes "crumpets" -- a tea-time sandwich -- fancy vegetables and treats, along with a tour of the home and a bit of its history. The cost is a donation of $5 for one tea and tour or $10 for two.
All proceeds will benefit the Florence County Historical Society and will be used to purchase preservation materials and photographs and to help cover other costs associated with exhibits at the museum.
The Historical Society's downtown Florence guided walking tour will also return at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Have you ever wondered about some of Florence's historic buildings, who lived there or what businesses got their start there? The guided walk offers an opportunity to learn more about the history of downtown Florence while taking a leisurely stroll.
The walk will begin at the Historical Society Museum at the corner of Central Avenue and U.S. 2. The route covers just over a mile, with a brief refreshment break and rest stop planned midway at the Encore on Central.
The walk follows the Historical Florence Walking Tour booklet, which includes photographs and brief commentaries on 37 historic properties. The booklet is available for $5 and will be offered for purchase the evening of the walk. It can also be purchased at the museum during its hours from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday through Saturday.
There is no charge for the guided walk, although donations to support the Historical Society are always appreciated.
The Historical Society also invites the public to visit the museum to see the current exhibits and purchase tickets for its annual raffle. Tickets are available at the Museum or from Historical Society members.
The raffle drawing will be Saturday, Sept. 5. First prize is the "Amish Stars" quilt, made and donated by Joan Spears and long-arm machine quilted by Patti Wabitsch. Additional prizes will also be awarded.
The Florence County Historical Society appreciates the community's continued support and invites everyone to take part in these upcoming activities.
