Upcoming activities set at Dickinson County Library

IRON MOUNTAIN -- Some of the upcoming events at the Dickinson County Library will include --

-- Unearth a Storytime Sessions: Tuesday and Tuesday, Aug. 18, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the library in Iron Mountain.

Through singing, dancing and storytelling, kids through age 5 will adventure all the way back in time to see dinosaurs.

Sponsored by local author Dana D. Saugstad and Hall Orthodontics.

-- These Walls Can Talk: Tuesday, 6 p.m. at the library in Iron Mountain.

Local History Specialist Emily Cummings will shares tips and tricks for researching the history and stories behind your home. Adults and teens are invited.

-- Bow Wows and Books: Wednesday, 5 to 6 p.m. at the library in Iron Mountain; and Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

Patrons of all ages and reading abilities are invited to read to therapy dogs. Time slots are 15 minutes long. Registration is required -- call 906-774-1218

-- Feather Friends Storytime: Friday, 10:30 a.m. at the library in Iron Mountain.

Kids ages 5 to 10 are invited to the special storytime with Dana from the Dickinson Conservation District.

-- Antique Appraisals with Mark Moran: Saturday, Aug. 15, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library in Iron Mountain.

Contributing editor for Antique Trader magazine, Mark Moran will provide free five-minute appraisals for items such as fine art, furniture, ceramics, glassware, vintage photographs, advertising, folk art, assorted toys, metalware, clocks, costume jewelry, musical instruments, books, and sporting memorabilia. -- Finish What You Started: Wednesday, Aug. 19, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the library in Iron Mountain.

Adults, teens and tweens are invited to bring crafts and projects from previous programs that need more time to finish at this drop-in program that will be available all day and evening. Various materials and tools will be available to choose from to finish their works of art.

-- Norway Monthly Book Club: Thursday, Aug. 20, 2 p.m. at the Solomonson Branch.

This month's discussion will be on "The Berry Pickers" by Amanda Peters. New members are always welcome.

-- Archaic Art: Friday, Aug. 21, 5 p.m. at the library in Iron Mountain.

Kids ages 7 to 12 will make amber fossil necklaces, then tie-dying cotton bags. Participants may bring their own white shirt to dye as well. Registration is required -- call 906-774-1218. Sponsored by The Friends of the Library.
