CRYSTAL FALLS -- Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress -- UPCAP -- will host a Caregiver Retreat from 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Fortune Lake Camp, 138 Fortune Lake Camp Road, Crystal Falls.

The daylong event is designed to provide rest and rejuvenation for non-professional family caregivers from across the Upper Peninsula.

The program will include structured activities such as a nature hike, an art project and yoga. Other activities such as a caregiver support group meeting, a cooking and nutrition class and time at the waterfront.

In addition, participants can enjoy a chair massage from a professional massage therapist if they like.

Activities will be lead by registered dietitian and certified yoga instructor Pam Roose from Inspiring Roots, and assisted by Della Juliano, health and caregiver educator from UPCAP.

The Caregiver Retreat will provide the opportunity for family caregivers to relax and share their caregiving experiences with others who have similar circumstances.

Taking time off from caregiving is a necessity for caregivers to decrease stress and increase good health and wellbeing. Harvard Health.edu states: "Taking a break can help you restore a sense of who you are, and allow you to bring your 'best self' back to your role as a caregiver."

Cost for the Caregiver Retreat is $30, non-refundable, and includes lunch and a chair massage. To register, go to www.upcap.org and click on "Events" or dial 211 for assistance.

This event is for non-professional family caregivers only.
