ALPHA -- The Crystal Falls Lions Club will host a White Cane Fundraiser from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Alpha Brewing Co. in Alpha.
Prime rib and pulled pork sandwiches on a Kaiser roll with cole slaw will be the featured meals, along with hot dogs and french fries. Alpha Brewing will have refreshments available as well.
The KidSight free mobile eye screening truck will be there. Special guests include Courtney Franz, a teacher of the blind and visually impaired, and Jessica Gauthier, orientation and mobility specialist, who will be there to help assist people navigating hurdles they may be facing with vision impairment and loss.
A cornhole tourney will take place from 1 to 5 p.m., along with a minnow counting contest for extra fun. The fundraiser will also have a bake sale, music and raffle items.
"This is an exciting event coming to Iron County for an incredible cause. Lions Club White Cane Day is an annual observance and fundraising event held in October to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired and to promote pedestrian safety," a Lions Club spokesperson said.
One hundred percent of the funds raised during White Cane events go toward local sight-related programs, such as eye banks, vision screenings, guide dog training and medical grants for those in need.
