Cornish Market set for Saturday

IRON MOUNTAIN -- The First Methodist Women will host their annual Cornish Market from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The "taste" of their heritage will start at 9 a.m. at First Global Methodist Church at 106 Fourth St. in Iron Mountain. They will offer old Cornish recipes including saffron buns, seedy buns, jelly tarts, heavy cake and Cousin Jack cookies, along with mini-pasties made by the group. Traditional bakery and treats will also be available for purchase.

The Cornish Cafe will have a sit-down experience available, offering a pasty or slice of apple pie with scalded cream along with coffee or tea.

"This decades-old Cornish venture has been passed down from the women that came before us, and new bakers are now preparing and offering these treasured recipes to share with the community," a member said of the event.

The ladies encourage the community to make plans to come and enjoy some delicious food and treats.
