Fall Fest and Quilt Auction on Saturday in Crystal Falls

CRYSTAL FALLS -- Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp will welcome the change of the season with its annual Fall Fest and Quilt Auction on Saturday.

Guests are invited to a continental breakfast from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the camp's dining hall. They also can check out a bake sale featuring homemade breads, and view 80 colorful quilts, ranging in size from throws to kings, in the auditorium.

Throughout the event, the corner store will offer numerous smaller hand-crafted items, including tied comforters and several unique pieces that will be presented in a draffle format.

The live auction begins at 11 a.m., with Pastor Soren Schmidt of Chassell calling for bids on 30 juried quilts.

The other 50 quilts will be auctioned using a virtual format. To participate, register online at fortunelake.org and follow bidding and payment instructions. The virtual auction closes at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The annual fundraiser is organized by a group of dedicated women who call themselves "Sisters of the Cloth." Throughout the year, the quilters gather at the camp to work on group projects and take others home to work on individually. Quilted creations and other hand-made items are also contributed by individuals and groups from member congregations and other generous donors.
