KINGSFORD -- The Dickinson County Community Chorus will officially kick off the holidays with its annual "Sounds of Christmas" program at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, and Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Kingsford High School auditorium.
Marking its 60th season, musical numbers will center around this year's theme, "The Holly and the Ivy" and the meaning of the Christmas wreath.
The 98-member chorus, directed by Principal Conductor Crystal Hogan, will perform 14 seasonal numbers ranging from pop to classical to religious, with many old favorites.
The chorus will be joined for selections by the 25-member children's chorus, directed by Assistant Conductor Dawn Kranz, who also will lead the women's ensemble. Assistant Conductor Jeremiah Garrigues-Cottelyou will direct the men's ensemble and Curt Rogan will direct the youth ensemble.
Karen McCorkle and Sandy Sullivan are piano accompanists. The string trio Datura and other instrumentalists will provide additional musical accompaniment.
Tickets are now available online on the DCCC website at communitychorus.org. Donations are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Proceeds from this concert supports the chorus in all of their programs throughout the year.
A spokesman for the chorus recommended purchasing tickets early, since there have been near-sellouts or sellouts for both performances in past years.
