CRYSTAL FALLS -- For the entire month of October, the Crystal Falls District Community Library will offer fee amnesty to all card holders.
Any patron who has any overdue fees with the library will be forgiven. The library will also accept canned goods in payment for lost items.
Library officials hope to encourage patrons to visit the library and feel welcome to participate in all it has to offer.
Along with forgiving fees, the library will be permanently adjusting borrowing allowance times on items checked out from the library. Books, audiobooks and CDs will now be due one month after their check-out date and DVDs will be due one week from their check-out date.
In addition to allowance time changes, the library will no longer charge patrons to check out DVDs. As a public entity, the library believes it is their purpose to serve the community with materials and resources available to them with no rental fee.
Everyone is encouraged to go to the library at 237 Superior Ave. to have fees forgiven.
The Friends of the Crystal Falls District Community Library will host a Meet and Greet from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday for new Library Director Shirley Frank and new Program Coordinator Teresa Tibbs-Tacke.
The community is invited to visit the library between these times to visit with new staff and give input about what they would like to have available at the library. Suggestion cards will be available as well; they will consider all suggestions.
Refreshments will be provided by The Friends of the Library. The event is open to the public.
The next author event is slated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, when they will host editor Theodore Van Alst Jr. during his current tour of a collection of short stories titled, "Never Whistle at Night: Part II Back for Blood."
The short story collection features dark indigenous tales collected from writers across Northern America. Van Alst will be discussing his editing process and will share what readers will discover in Part II of this anthology.
After the discussion, the room will be open to a question-and-answer session with Van Alst.
The event is open to the public, and refreshments will be served. This is an in-person event; however, it will be available live via Zoom for those who cannot be present at the library.
Anyone interested in joining may call the library at 906-875-3344 to receive the link before the event.
