Golden K Club has picnic at Cowboy Lake

Golden K members enjoy a meal and conversation at the annual members picnic.

IRON MOUNTAIN — There is a song with words something like this “Hey hey good lookin,’ whatcha got cookin’? … so if you wanna have fun, come along with me.”

That could be the theme song for the Golden K. The member picnic was Monday at the Cowboy Lake pavilion. Weather accommodated with a slight breeze and a pleasant temperature for the morning.

All the elements necessary for a relaxed, enjoyable few hours were in place and the Golden Kers wasted no time greeting each other.

Mindy Pilon brought her dad, Ray, and their friend, Eldon Paquin, along to entertain the picnickers. As only Mindy can, she got the group singing, toe tapping and dancing. Mindy seemed to have energy for two people as she danced her way through the crowd.

As Zollners pulled up and began setting up the lunch, the smell of food got everyone finding their place in the food line. Not only is it nice to have someone else do the cooking, it is even better not to have dishes to do after enjoying a wonderful meal.

The group was entertained by Eldon Paquin, Mindy Pilon and her father Ray Pilon.

With stomachs well satisfied, the group settled back to enjoy more music. The musical trio always has a great variety of songs. Paquin manages to get one in that brings a chuckle to the crowd, Mindy had everyone singing “You Are My Sunshine” and Ray closes their program with “Amazing Grace.”

Mary Jane Nelson opened the business meeting with this thought, “Today, we are thankful for our presence here and the gifts we bring to each other through music, conversation and refreshments.”

Nelson, chairwoman for July, had the group get organized for a short business meeting.

Happy Birthday wishes were sung for Jeannine Polkinghorne, July 20; Louise Swope, July 22 and Karen Burgess, also July 22.

The next general meeting will be Monday at the First Presbyterian Church. Tony Edelbeck, Kingsford city manager, will be guest speaker.

Karen Klenke will be the Golden K guest July 30.

The Golden Throats sing Wednesday at Evergreen Assisted Living Facility.

Those interested in any Golden K program are welcome to attend any Monday meeting. The Golden Kers gather about 9:30 a.m., sing a little, talk a lot and have a short business meeting, with the program at 10:30 a.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
