Nurses receive recognition at VA medical center, Rhinelander clinic

IRON MOUNTAIN –The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center recently recognized three nurses within its VA health care system with the 2019 Administrator’s Award for Excellence in Nursing, as part of observing National Nurses Week from May 6 to 12.

Ann Mattson, who serves in the medical center’s Quality Management Department, was honored with the Administrative Registered Nurse Award. Mattson oversees the Infection Control Program.

Emily Marheine received the Award for Excellence for Licensed Practical Nurses. Marheine is part of the team at the VA Outpatient Clinic in Rhinelander, Wis., and is the clinic’s backup telehealth clinical technician.

Melissa Campbell received the Award for Excellence for Registered Nurses. Campbell is the lead RN at the Rhinelander VA Clinic.

The medical center employs more than 200 nurses at its main Iron Mountain facility and seven community outpatient clinics across the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin.

The Administrator’s Award for Excellence in Nursing was established in 1984.
