True North Outpost to host open house

True North Outpost south of Norway will host an open house Friday and Saturday. There will be musical entertainment from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.

NORWAY — True North Outpost at the corner of U.S. 8 and Old Piers Gorge Road south of Norway will host an open house Friday and Saturday.

Doors open at 1 p.m. Friday and there will be a free concert by Political Lizard from 7 to 10 p.m. Smokler’s BBQ will serve food from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

“It will be a chance for people to explore the Outpost and the history behind the building that has stood in its location since 1904,” co-owner Nate Alwine said. “Tour the Outpost, the grounds, and the only indoor climbing center between Marquette and Milwaukee.”

True North Outpost was co-founded by Alwine, Evan Blagec and Austin Kalcec. It aims to be a one-stop shop both for local and tourist outdoor enthusiasts wanting to explore the Upper Peninsula.

During the open house, the upper level of the Outpost will host the “Northbound” saga, a locally filmed web series that is a prelude to a motion picture to be filmed in the Upper Peninsula called “Northstar.” The series airs on the Minneapolis-based streaming platform Seeka TV.

Producers and actors from “Northbound,” a locally filmed web series, will be on hand for an open house Friday and Saturday at True North Outpost.

Film producer Seth Anderson, an Iron Mountain native, will answer questions. The “Northstar” saga was created by Anderson and his brother, Nathan, along with their production company partner Jason Hagen. Since its release, “Northbound” has ranked within the top five series on Seeka TV.

True North Outpost doors will open at 8 a.m. Saturday. State Sen. Ed McBroom, R-Vulcan, will be on site from 10:30 to 11 a.m.; state Rep. Beau LaFave, R-Iron Mountain, will visit from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

A nationally known band — its identity yet to be revealed — will perform from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, organizers said.
