IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson County Healthcare System has added Dr. Melissa Koenig, an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle care.

Koenig graduated from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Penn., and has been serving patients at the Colorado Permanente Medical Group, based in Denver.

She also completed a foot and ankle fellowship at The Foundation for Orthopedic, Athletic and Reconstructive Research and Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

“Orthopedic surgery is very rewarding when you can fix an injury, like a broken ankle, and return a patient back to do the things they enjoy,” Koenig said.

Koenig is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a member of the American Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

A native of Washington D.C., Koenig said she looks forward to taking part in outdoor adventures in the U.P. such as hiking, traveling, biking and gardening and getting to know people in the community.
