Grant applications due May 21 for downtown projects in IM

IRON MOUNTAIN – The Downtown Development Authority will take applications for its 2020 Downtown Assistance Program grant through May 21.

Property and business owners who may have projects already in the works and would like to continue them are encouraged to apply for these grant opportunities.

“Many of these projects were conceived of before this crisis struck. We understand this is a very challenging time, and hope this is one way we can help,” said Amber Pipp, DDA program director.

The Downtown Assistance Program grant funds up to 50% of a proposed activity, or $4,000 per project, whichever is less. The total allocation for this program is $8,000 per year.

For a grant application and more information about DDA grant opportunities, go to www.downtownironmountain.com/grants.

Applications and all required supporting documentation for the Downtown Assistance Program grant must be submitted by 4 p.m. May 21 at Iron Mountain City Hall, 501 S. Stephenson Ave.

Those applying then must participate in a mandatory review panel at 5:30 p.m. May 27 at Iron Mountain City Hall. The grant will be awarded June 17.

Previous grant recipients include Brick + Mortar, CAH Rentals, Champion Inc. and Eden Property Collection in 2019; Sikora Sheet Metal in 2018; and Sol Blu Lounge and Taproom and AdvantaPrint in 2017.

The mission of the DDA is to create a vibrant downtown in Iron Mountain by promoting economic growth through organizing community events, attracting new businesses, enhancing existing businesses and advancing the beautification and historic preservation within the district.
