Donahue tapped as new financial officer for DCHS

BRIAN DONAHUE

IRON MOUNTAIN — Brian Donahue has been named chief financial officer for Dickinson County Healthcare System.

The DCHS board announced the selection Thursday.

Donahue will succeed Jerry Worden, who has been the interim CFO since April 2019.

Donahue has been chief financial officer for Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center for the past six years. Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center is a group of 11 federally qualified health centers serving the western Upper Peninsula.

As chief financial officer, Donahue oversaw operations as Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center transitioned from two medical clinics to 11 medical and two dental clinics and from hospital ownership to federally qualified health centers.

He was actively involved in clinic operations to produce strong financial performance, with a net revenue of $23 million.

“Brian has experience in all facets of health care. His knowledge of successful business practices in hospitals, clinics, and related businesses will serve as a real asset to the organization,” said Chuck Nelson, DCHS president and CEO. “He will not only be managing our day-to-day hospital finances, he will also serve as a member of the executive leadership team helping set the future strategic direction of DCHS.

Before becoming chief financial officers for Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center, Donahue was vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Portage Health in Hancock.

Donahue has spent more than 30 years managing financial operations. He has a master’s degree in health service administration from the University of Michigan and his professional achievements include U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s 242 Mortgage Insurance Program, which provides FHA mortgage insurance to approved hospitals for low interest capital project loans, acquisitions and debt refinancings; Hospital Information System Implementation; Rural Health Clinic; and FHQ management.

“This is a great opportunity and I am excited to join the team at Dickinson County Healthcare. DCHS has a rich tradition of caring for the residents and families of the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin and I am eager to apply my skills and knowledge to help DCHS continue down its current path of success,” Donahue said.

DCHS is at 1721 S. Stephenson Ave. in Iron Mountain.
