Dickinson County has had two more confirmed deaths blamed on COVID-19 in the past week, state data showed Tuesday.

Iron County recorded 12 new confirmed COVID-19 positives since Jan. 24, up eight from the previous week, while Dickinson County had eight new cases, one more than the week before, according to figures posted Tuesday on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website.

The MDHHS website Tuesday added 100 confirmed COVID-19 positives since Jan. 24, 57 fewer than the previous week, to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 25 in Marquette County; 12 in Iron County; nine in Houghton and Schoolcraft counties; eight in Dickinson, Menominee and Chippewa counties; seven in Delta County; four in Luce County; three in Alger County; two in Baraga, Gogebic and Mackinac counties; and one in Keweenaw County.

The U.P. had a total of eight new virus-related deaths — two each in Dickinson and Baraga counties; and one apiece in Houghton, Marquette, Delta and Chippewa counties.

Based on the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 63,159 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 981 confirmed deaths since pandemic tracking began in March 2020.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 583 confirmed cases and 67 probable, and 15 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 782 confirmed cases and 884 probable, 17 confirmed deaths and four probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,181 confirmed, 141 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,281 confirmed, 826 probable and eight deaths, 10 probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,392 confirmed cases and 821 probable, 14 deaths and four probable; Mackinac County, 1,938 confirmed cases and 1,029 probable, 33 deaths and six probable; Baraga County, 2,125 confirmed cases, 449 probable and 60 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 3,124 confirmed cases and 416 probable, 84 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,562 confirmed cases and 696 probable, 44 deaths and 34 probable; Chippewa County, 4,156 confirmed cases and 6,004 probable, and 99 deaths, 21 probable; Menominee County, 4,870 confirmed cases, 2,188 probable and 68 deaths, 15 probable; Dickinson County, 6,200 confirmed cases and 3,097 probable, 105 deaths and 25 probable; Houghton County, 8,193 confirmed cases, 1,233 probable, 95 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 9,079 confirmed cases and 3,257 probable, 150 deaths and 37 probable; and Marquette County, 14,693 confirmed cases, 4,276 probable and 147 deaths, 19 probable.

The MDHHS on Tuesday added 6,027 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since Jan. 24, down 503 for the week, or an average of about 861 cases per day for the seven-day period, for a total of 3,030,505 cases since COVID tracking began. The state since Jan. 24 recorded 245 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus, down 15, to reach 41,690.

The state updates COVID-19 data once a week, usually on Tuesdays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Tuesday had Marinette County at 14,346 COVID-19 positives so far, up 39 since Thursday, and 148 deaths; Vilas County, 6,439 positives, up 13, and 107 deaths; Forest County, 3,307 positives, up three, and 55 deaths; Iron County, 1,799 positives, up one, and 50 deaths; and Florence County, 1,342 positives, no change, and 17 deaths.
