Dickinson chamber welcomes IR Community Broadcasting

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron River Community Broadcasting recently joined the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce, which celebrated by hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The radio station consists of WIKB 99.1 FM and WFER 97.9 AM/1230 AM.
WIKB is known as the home of “Telephone Time,” which runs music-free 9 a.m. until noon Monday through Saturday and is hosted by Jimm “Say My Name” Haney and weekend host Garrett Bigelow. The show has been on for more than 58 years and allows people to call in to buy, sell, trade or notify listeners of community activities, give birthday wishes, listen to local gossip and win giveaways and prizes. It can be listened to online at WIKB.com. Many vacationers, snowbirds, former Yoopers and “Yooper wannabes” listen in to see what’s going on in the Northwoods. “Telephone Time” at 9:15 a.m. Fridays features the award-winning “Buckskin Bob Weekend Outdoor Show,” in which he informs the public about upcoming events and activities, fishing reports and applications for hunting.
Iron River Community Broadcasting offers other shows: “Drive at 5” is from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and features a little harder rock for the way home from work, with and music that includes local bands. “Sammy Hager Top Rock Countdown” airs from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturdays and replays from 3 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
WIKB also covers news with Jeremy Johnson and West Iron County and Forest Park sports with announcer Troy Margoni.
WFER plays “roll your own,” country-style in-house with their own producer, Mitch Ness, who plays all types of country music. Also offered is “Big D n Bubba” country radio talk show, which airs 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Saturdays has original country gold with Rowdy Yates from 7 p.m. until midnight and “Honkey Tonkin’ with Tracey Lawrence” airs from noon to 3 p.m. Sundays.
