Kingsford rehab center expanded

KINGSFORD -- Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson Kingsford Rehab Center, a partner with UP Rehabilitative Services, marked its expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday conducted by the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce.

Organizational leaders, rehab team members, community representatives, patients and friends gathered to celebrate the new 2,100-square-foot expansion to the Kingsford Rehab Clinic, 505 N. Hooper St. in Kingsford.

The new space includes an increased physical therapy training area and private treatment rooms to accommodate higher patient volumes and further extend the care and experience provided to patients.

Sara Gunville, director of Rehab, said, "The new expansion is truly a symbol of the hard work and compassion of our Rehab team. Without their knowledge and expertise, we wouldn't see the positive outcomes that lead to the expansion and growth of our center. Also, thank you, Marshfield, for your continued support and maintaining a wonderful working relationship with the UP Rehab team. Together, we will continue our mission of helping our community members right here, close to home."

Special thanks was extended to the facility's neighbor, Kingsford Middle/High School, for supporting the expansion project. Thanks also was given to the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce for administering the ribbon-cutting ceremony and to the chamber ambassadors who attended supporting the event.

Dylan Taylor, Marshfield Michigan Region director of operations, said, "Marshfield Dickinson and UP Rehab have been partners for the past four years, and our collaborative effort has positioned us as the Rehab providers of choice in our community. We are extremely excited to see the center continue to grow in square footage and providers to accommodate our increased patient population better. We look forward to continuing to meet our communities' rehabilitative needs long into the future, and the new expansion will help us achieve our goal. Thank you all for your support."

Carey Contracting was noted for overseeing the center expansion construction. Hiring local subcontractors and keeping the work in our community was essential, organizers said, adding, "We could not be happier with the result."

In collaboration with UP Rehabilitative Services since July 2020, the service treats patients from northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula with locations in Kingsford, Norway and Florence, Wis. Comprised of a team of more than 20 therapists, it offers physical, occupational, speech, hand and aquatic therapies in addition to a full scope of athletic training.
