CARLISLE, Pa. (AP) -- President Donald Trump addressed a defense summit at the U.S. Army War College, but he focused more on political themes than battlefield issues.

The summit, held Wednesday, included Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Republican Pennsylvania Sen. David McCormick. Trump said the gathering will generate $10 billion in promised investments from defense and tech companies, but didn’t provide many details. He briefly mentioned the war in Iran and the military operation in January in Venezuela.

Trump also discussed topics like windmills and ship catapults. The event featured prominent business leaders, including JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon. Concerns about missile shortages and defense spending weren’t mentioned.

Boat sinks

in SF Bay

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Rescuers are still searching for three people missing after a boat sank in San Francisco Bay near Alcatraz Island as part of memorial service.

One person was pulled from the water but later died, and 16 others were rescued Tuesday afternoon. A dog on board also died.

Authorities say the boat capsized amid swells up to 5 feet. They say the boat was a 50-foot pleasure craft. The U.S. Coast Guard is leading the search with vessels and aircraft. U.S. Coast Guard Captain Jared S. Toczko said rescuers will continue searching until sundown Wednesday before ending rescue efforts.

Flooding in

South Texas

UVALDE, Texas (AP) -- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says more than 40 people have been rescued from high waters as heavy downpours drenching South Texas continue to raise the risk of flash flooding.

Most of the rescues have been in the Uvalde County area. The storms also spawned a tornado in San Antonio on Wednesday morning. The downpours began Tuesday. Flash flood warnings are in effect.

In Kerr County, where catastrophic flooding last year killed more than 100 people, officials say they’re in contact with summer camps at risk. There have been no reports of deaths or injuries. The National Weather Service says as much as 20 inches may fall before the storms move out.
